JISNAS-WUR-YAU Joint Seminar and Workshop 2018 "IPM Seminar and Workshop on Improvement of Agricultural Research and Application" (3rd-4th February 2018)
Japan Intellectual Support Network in Agricultural Sciences (JISNAS) that consists of 49 organization members including university, research institution and JICA and Wageningen University & Research (WUR), the Netherlands signed a Memorandum of Understanding in June 2017 for the establishment of a long-term cooperation aimed at strengthening international cooperation in agricultural research and higher education in Asia. JISNAS has provided substantial contribution to the YAU-JICA Technical Cooperation Project "Capacity Development of Yezin Agricultural University (YAU) in Myanmar" and WUR has conducted research projects in various ways to improve agricultural production in Myanmar. On this occasion, JISNAS and WUR plan to hold a Joint Seminar on integrated pest management (IPM) with YAU on 3rd February 2018 and a workshop on improvement of agricultural research and its application on 4th February 2018.
We will deliver two keynote lectures for the joint seminar: "epidemiology and integrated control of plant pathogens in arable crops and vegetables" from the Netherlands and "field practices of IPM in Southeast Asia" from Japan. Some topics from YAU research groups will be expected to introduce their recent activities and discuss with international participants for deepening academic understanding in specific research fields toward quantitative and qualitative improvement of agricultural products.
In the workshop, participants from Japan and the Netherlands would like to share information about framework and recent activities of JISNAS and WUR for strengthening international cooperation and collaboration for agricultural research and education with YAU.
We are planning to conduct bilateral or trilateral research projects together, and in case where the plan will be materialized we will be able to invite Myanmar young scientists including graduate students to our stage of international education based on international collaborative studies. We hope this opportunity would be able to provide a significant occasion for both parties to share and promote a concept of research-based education (RBE).
